Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Jay Stone’s Retirement Party)

Jay Stone’s Retirement Party
The longest 82 minutes since the Spanish Inquisition – Four Christmases
The cinematic low point of the millennium – The Human Centipede
Shockingly crass, sloppy, repetitive and thin – The Love Guru

After 20 years as Ottawa’s film critic with a forte for hating things in a myriad of ways, Jay Stone is closing the credits.

Come celebrate his 43-ish years in journalism at the Mayfair Theatre on Thursday, May 15.

Unfortunately we couldn’t secure the rights to the Orson Welles classic, but we’ll be playing the Citizen Kane of Pet Detective movies: Ace Ventura.

“If you crossed Howdy Doody with a flamingo and booked it into Yuk-Yuks, you would have something close,” was how Jay described a young Jim Carrey in 1994.

His pithy yet potent review, “4 stars,” even made it onto the movie’s poster.

Doors open for socializing at 6 pm. Movie at 7 pm. There will be booze and shawarma for sale.

It’s a public event and everyone from Ottawa and beyond who loves or hates Jay’s taste is welcome.
Suggested donation $10. All profits go to the United Way Ottawa.
See you there!
