Tetsuo: The Iron Man

Tetsuo: The Iron Man – Screening on July 23, 24, 27, 28!

Advance tickets now available for Tetsuo: The Iron Man!

Virtually absent from cinema screens since the 1990s, this underground classic from Japan is back with a brand new restoration! Tetsuo: The Iron Man is filmmaker Shinya Tsukamoto’s unhinged hot take on humankind’s ongoing battle with technology; literally, as a man mutates into a walking, clanking man-machine that terrorizes himself and everyone around him. Warping elements of early Cronenberg, Lynch, and Raimi into a deliriously-paced cyberpunk cocktail, it’s a body horror manifesto that’s fueled by techno-erotic adrenaline and wrought iron perversion. Unmissable.

3.5/4 Stars! “is certainly worthy of Cronenberg.” (Slant)

“an essential watch. It remains a cult film that keeps kicking and screaming down the years, with a fan base that includes Quentin Tarantino…echoes some of the best Japanese animation of the time…an inspirational work to show young filmmakers wondering how they can make great cinema with limited resources.” (British Film Institute)

“combines the frenzied roller coaster pace of a Sam Raimi film with the acute symbolism of David Lynch’s Eraserhead and ends up a ferociously original 16mm nightmare that stands in a league of its own…Highly recommended.” (Austin Chronicle)

*Please take note that doors open 30 minutes before showtimes. We encourage people to arrive early. We have a small box office, a small candy bar, and a single-screen cinema, meaning that when most of an audience shows up a few minutes before showtime, it causes a bottleneck. If possible, we appreciate you arriving a little bit early to pick out your seat and get your popcorn. Thanks for your help!

A "metal fetishist", driven mad by the maggots wriggling in the wound he's made to embed metal into his flesh, runs out into the night and is accidentally run down by a Japanese businessman and his girlfriend. The pair dispose of the corpse in hopes of quietly moving on with their lives. However, the businessman soon finds that he is now plagued by a vicious curse that transforms his flesh into iron.
