The Mayfair isn’t just a place for people who love movies – it’s a place for people who make them, too. That’s why, as part of our ongoing Filmmakers in Attendance Screening Series, we’re welcoming Canadian documentarians Peter Wintonick and Mira Burt-Wintonick for the premiere engagement of their new cinematic road-trip documentary, PilgrIMAGE.

The screenings take place this Friday, July 24 (7:00), Saturday, July 25 (9:00) and Sunday, July 26 (7:00).

In this road-movie about movies, Peter Wintonick takes a film-trip across the world with Mira, his 20-year-old media-making daughter. They journey through film history and media’s future, questioning how different generations view, use or make their own film, images, sound and media. From Fellini’s hometown in Italy to Nuremburg, where Leni Riefenstahl shot Triumph of the Will; from Chaplin’s grave to blogging theorists in Vienna; from the Wizard of Oz to Romeo and Juliet via The Sound of Music; from Jean-Luc Godard’s Swiss village to the next media artists at the Venice Biennale; from Lumière’s first film factory to media activist Franny Armstrong, pilgrIMAGE playfully mixes contemporary and historical cinematic sites with personal encounters and film-life lessons.

Peter Wintonick is best known for the Noam Chomsky documentary Manufacturing Consent, but he is also the winner of the 2006 Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts, former Thinker in Residence for the Premier of South Australia, a prolific award winning filmmaker, and one of Canada’s best known international documentarians.

He and his daughter Mira have been working on PilgrIMAGE since 2005, so it’s a safe bet they’ll have lots of stories to share with the Mayfair audience.
