Oscar winning actor Ernest Borgnine passed away today at the age of 95. The Mayfair salutes one of cinema’s warmest and most likable character actors, who had over 200 film and TV credits to his name. He even shot a film here in Ottawa back in 2000 called THE KISS OF DEBT.
Borgnine won the Best Actor Oscar for his sensitive performance of a shy, single butcher in MARTY (1955). He also appeared in Sam Peckinpah’s THE WILD BUNCH (1969) which has screened here a few times.
For some under appreciated films featuring Mr. Borgnine, check out John Sturges’ classic rural thriller BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK (1955) and the offbeat western HANNIE CAULDER (1971)
