Grade A! “There’s a Twilight Zone-like surrealism…by attenuating its pace and allowing us to fully immerse in its world the result is a work all the more powerful and affecting. ” (Slash Film)

5 Stars! “Carpenter-esque sci-fi western hybrid Bacurau is a stunning and furious piece of social commentary” (Sci Fi Now)

“delightful mishmash of genres and ideas that works way better than it should. There are elements of a Tarantino-like Western, science fiction and a more traditional drama/thriller. Bacurau defies labels and expectations, and works because of it.” (Film Inquiry)

Bacurau, a small town in the Brazilian sertão, mourns the loss of its matriarch, Carmelita, who lived to be 94. Days later, its inhabitants notice that their community has vanished from most maps.
