Koyekola – Screening on Thursday December 15 at 7:00pm!
This is an amateur film entirely produced and written by black Canadian youth in the NCR. The film is one of the many community iniatives that encourage black youth to discover their talents, and also to pursue careers in the film industry. It allows them to recognize and celebrate their skills, talents, and abilities. The film is also an attempt to portray the challenges of many black youth, native and newcomers in a racist society. The unspoken but evident message depicted in this short film is the sophisticated world of technology they live in intersecting with social determinants of the criminal justice system. They are Canadians, bilingual, no criminal records high-school grads facing racism and discrimination that may lead to mental illness and alienation.
Presented by Bantu Media- Canada Institut and Apex Visual Productions – A Canadian Black-lead not-for profit research and educational organization
Tickets – $10.00
*This event is a rental, and tickets are cash only if purchased from the box office on December 15. Normal Mayfair prices and memberships do not apply.
*Please take note that doors open 30 minutes before showtimes. We encourage people to arrive early. We have a small box office, a small candy bar, and a single-screen cinema, meaning that when most of an audience shows up a few minutes before showtime, it causes a bottleneck. If possible, we appreciate you arriving a little bit early to pick out your seat and get your popcorn. Thanks for your help!
