Life Songs is a feature documentary examining the loss of sacred community and the rise of individualism as it directly relates to the creation and consumption of song in our culture. We are culture far removed from it’s own song, having forgotten how to use our voices to tell our own story. Life Songs is a film that witnesses a group of 8 people learning to create songs out of the stuff of life.
Barclay McMillan has been creating opportunities for people to discover, or recover, their singing voices and explore them in a context of healing and well-being since 1991. Through the free exploration of voice and movement, participants in his LifeSong program explore the patterns of their own life experience, tell their life stories, and create songs out of the various themes of their lives.
