Cinema’s First Nast Women: Queens Of Destruction – Presented by the International Film Festival Of Ottawa – Screening on Friday March 22!
Advance tickets now available for Cinema’s First Nasty Women: Queens Of Destruction!
Back by popular demand, Cinema’s First Nasty Women presents a selection of rarely screened European and American silent films that revels in the spirit of rule-breaking, anarchic women on screen going back to the earliest years of the medium. IFFO is thrilled to present this program curated by Carleton University professor Laura Horak, Maggie Hennefeld and Elif Rongen-Kaynakçi, in association with the release of Kino Lorber’s four-disc DVD/Blu-ray collection.
Chaos reigns in this new program of delirious slapstick. Featuring performances by forgotten French comedienne Léontine, Black actress Bertha Regustus, the great lesbian performer Fay Tincher, as well as Sarah Duhamel, Little Chrysia, Alma Taylor, and Chrissie White. Carleton Music professor James McGowan on the piano and Ukrainian jazz and orchestral percussionist Valeriy Nehovora will perform live accompaniment.
*This event is a rental. Normal Mayfair prices and memberships do not apply.
*Please take note that doors open 30 minutes before showtimes. We encourage people to arrive early. We have a small box office, a small candy bar, and a single-screen cinema, meaning that when most of an audience shows up a few minutes before showtime, it causes a bottleneck. If possible, we appreciate you arriving a little bit early to pick out your seat and get your popcorn. Thanks for your help!
