Godzilla

Godzilla, a weapon of science, a great battle of wonder and terror!

Godzilla Mini-Fest throughout May!
The original Godzilla (1954) – Sunday May 4th, and Monday May 5th!

Japan is thrown into a panic after several ships are destroyed near Odo Island. An expedition to the island led by paleontologist Professor Kyohei Yemani soon discover something more devastating than imagined, in the form of a 50 meter tall monster the natives call Gojira. The monster begins a rampage that threatens to destroy not only Japan, but the rest of the world! Japanese with English subtitles.

4/4 Stars! “20-story-tall king of the monsters, and the most fearsome city-stomper in the history of cinema. Fifty years of sequels, tag-team monster mash-ups, and shitty Hollywood remakes have not blunted the sheer cinematographic force, let alone metaphorical heft, of Ishirô Honda’s Godzilla” (Slant)

5 Stars! “in this first one, the big guy plays for keeps, and stands as a troubling reminder of dark things outside the screen, using horror to tackle a subject that to this day often paralyzes Japanese filmmakers who try to take it on directly.” (eFilmCritic.com)

4/4 Stars! “It’s a revelation, and it’s a great film.” (Combustible Celluloid)
