Strongman

OTTAWA PREMIERE | BEST DOCUMENTARY — SLAMDANCE 2009 | NY TIMES CRITICS’ PICK

Shot over the course of nine years, this “strange and strangely beautiful” (Variety) documentary follows the career of aging muscleman Stanley Pleskun, a.k.a. Stanless Steel, who can bend pennies and twist horseshoes with his bare hands — yet somehow finds success always just beyond his grasp.

As the subject, Pleskun himself gives the film “the kind of organic hook that all documentaries need but few are blessed with [making it] an outsider tale of… lilting poignancy.” (NY Times)
